RACE RELATIONS BOSS CHOSEN AS PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE

Mark Versallion, 35 year old head of WAMO, a national race relations charity, has been selected as prospective Conservative MP for Stretford & Urmston.

More than one hundred people took part in the vote at Manor Lodge Hotel in Urmston to choose which of the three finalists will take on Labour’s Minister for the North West, Beverly Hughes, at the next General Election.

Mark was selected after two hours of interviews and questions with the audience, made up of party members and local residents. The meeting was an ‘open primary’ which meant any resident of Stretford & Urmston could attend and vote.

Mark has been involved in race relations work for the last fourteen years and is Chairman of a national race relations charity, with his British-born Indian wife and his two sons.

Following his selection Mark said “It is a great honour to be chosen to fight for the concerns of Stretford and Urmston. As the prospective Conservative MP, I will ensure the Government is held to account and that people’s concerns are listened to and acted upon.”

Mark is also a Councillor in the London Borough of Harrow and Chairman of its influential finance scrutiny committee. He is also the founder and Managing Director of a marketing agency. Mark also serves as a commissioned officer in the Royal Navy Reserve.

Mark went on to say “After ten years of broken promises Labour can no longer take Stretford and Urmston for granted. I have been overwhelmed with the warm welcome I’ve received and believe there is a strong feeling among local people that it is time for a change.”
