HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY

The 27th January is Holocaust Memorial Day. This day helps to ensure that each new generation is reminded of and learns the lessons of the Holocaust. It also hopefully lessens, and perhaps one day altogether removes, the danger of such evils being repeated.

Whether it has been talking to survivors of Auschwitz, speaking to those who lost loved ones, or listening to British soldiers who liberated Belsen, I still can’t fully fathom the horror… nor hope to. But I do believe I must never forget.

Events are held throughout Britain but more could be done to publicise and ensure we reflect on what this day commemorates.

The Holocaust is not an event that should fade with time; for it is an ever-present danger waiting for the day we become complacent.

I for one never want to forget it happened, nor what it took to happen.
