FUEL PRICE CRISIS
As soaring fuel costs continue to hit families, a petrol station in Gorton, south Manchester, has been revealed as the most expensive in Britain.
At almost £1.30 a litre, drivers are being hit hard and there is more to come with the price hikes later this year as Gordon Brown's latest tax rises come into effect.
This news comes less than a week after the Government announced the new Congestion Charge for Manchester, which will run through the middle of the Stretford and Urmston constituency.
Parliamentary Candidate Mark Versallion said "Those who can least afford it are now paying the price for Gordon Brown not saving when he was earning. These economic problems have been eased in other parts of the world because they saved for a rainy day. Gordon did not. For many of us driving is not a luxury, it is essential. Rather than hindering and hurting people's pockets, Gordon Brown should be helping."
Figures from the Federation of Small Businesses show that rising fuel costs are having a dramatic effect on the economy by stifling growth and employment. Mark Versallion added, "Across the world, Governments are responding to the credit crunch and soaring fuel prices by cutting taxes to help their economies. But in Britain, because Gordon Brown didn't fix the roof while the sun was shining, we have nothing put aside for this rainy day and so he is increasing taxes when we can least afford it."
