EXTENSION OF FLEXIBLE WORKING FOR PARENTS WELCOMED
Stretford and Urmston's Parliamentary Candidate has welcomed the increase in flexible working for parents.
Mark Versallion said "Extending the right for those with children up to age 6 to age 16 is a great idea and I am glad the independent Walsh review has recommended this to the Government.
As a parent with two young children myself, and as an employer, I am very much in favour of making this a right. Flexibility already exists in most businesses but this policy will protect those who may work for less flexible employers."
"Although it's important that employers have control over what suits their business, it is of course in both the employer's and employee's interest to come to a mutually beneficial arrangement. Who doesn't want people to be happy at work.
Mark Versallion added "The Conservatives committed to extending flexible working rights in 2007, and to parents with children up to 18. It is an interesting observation that the Government has left businesses and families in limbo for a long time whilst yet another review has been conducted at tax payers expense. This is in comparison to the Conservatives who gave a rock solid commitment a year ago, and with a higher age threshold.
"Anyway, the Government have got there in the end, though I would still want it extended to up to 18 years of age, but it seems we'll have to wait for a Conservative Government before that happens."
