COUNCIL BUDGET DELIVERS GROWTH

Letter in Stretford & Urmston Messenger

Although being dealt such a poor Government grant, Trafford Council has delivered a budget that will ensure Council Tax remains at a relatively low level, while providing real growth in services.

When so many Councils up and down the country are struggling to simply break even - with no new money for services - it is impressive that Trafford has found over £18 million to invest in the community.

Central Government grant has again been below inflation and yet Trafford is asked to do more and more every year - as Gordon Brown uses this mechanism as a stealth tax. Local Authorities therefore taking the blame for pressures on local taxes.

But the proof is in the pudding and in less than four years in power the Conservative administration has turned a failing Council into one of the best 'three-star improving' authorities in the country - and with a much lower Council tax than neighbouring authorities.
