THREE THOUSAND VIOLENT CRIMINALS RELEASED EARLY

Latest figures for early prison releases reveal that over 16,000 prisoners have been released onto the streets early, of which 3,000 are violent criminals.

Commenting on the figure, Stretford and Urmston's parliamentary candidate, Mark Versallion, said: “Early release has put the public at risk and is a direct consequence of the Government's failure to deal with prison over-crowding."

The Conservative parliamentary spokesman added, "Over 16,000 prisoners, including 3,000 violent offenders have now been let out of jail early in just six months because this Government has failed to build adequate prison capacity, even though civil servants were telling them we were going to run out of places."

“This policy has now created more than 300 unnecessary victims of crime, including one person who has been tragically murdered. They should have been protected by the criminal justice system but have been let down by Labour’s incompetence."

"This early release scheme must be scrapped and sufficient prison places provided so that the public can be protected. This is a most fundamental of Government duties and yet once again Labour have taken their eye of the ball in search of political gimmicks and costly experiments.”
